Shivagange trek (29th Nov 2014)

It was almost an year since my last trek and I was a little eager to go for a trek.
I planned to go for one day trek with one of my colleagues, Nanthan Raj on 29th November, 2014.

Here is the route:
Bangalore to Dabaspet(51 KM) >> Pavagada bus from KSRTC bus stand terminal 1

Dabaspet to Shivagange >> Local Auto

We got onto the bus at 9AM from KSRTC bus stand and it took us around 2 hrs to reach Dabaspet, thanks to Bangalore's nightmare traffic.

Autos are aplenty near the dabaspet bus stand to reach Shivagange base. If you chose normal auto, you would be charged 60 rupees per head. There are other bulky autos available, which carry around 12 people, but charge you only 20 rs per head. You'll have to bear with the congestion inside the autos if you choose the latter. We took the bulky auto. The auto ride was a little bumpy and took around 20 mins to reach.

Unlike other trekking spots, this trek starts through the temple. The temple architecture dates back to many centuries and needless to say, attractive.
The name Shivagange is attributed to spring water spots, found halfway in the path, which according to myths is of Sacred Ganges. It makes a perfect place to escape ourselves for a day from our daily chores.

The architecture speaks a lot about its history
As we entered the temple, we were  welcomed by none other than our ancestors, monkeys.

They are highly mischievous and you just have to mind your own business, unless you want to get into trouble. After visiting the temple, we started the trek at 11:45 AM. The routes are well defined and there is no chance of getting lost, even if you choose to!!! There are iron rails installed to assist in climbing the rock.

As we climbed the rocks, we witnessed beautiful landscapes that took our breath away.

Breathtaking. Isn't it?

Can you spot the bell?

Monkey menace was at its peak as we climbed the last stretch of the trek, which is rather the steepest of the trek. They simply would not leave anybody who carry bags and do anything to snatch them away. So, it is advisable not to carry bags. There are plenty of shops along the path where one can buy foods and snacks.

At some places, the steeps are too high and you will have to hold your nerve to ascend them.

Much to our surprise, we completed the trek in about an hour.
There is a beautiful Nandi idol at the top, carved out of monolithic rock.

This is also a pilgrimage place and one can see people offering bangles and bells to Nandi for their fulfilled wishes.

We relaxed at the top for about 30 mins and started climbing down at around 1:30 PM. It wasn't difficult and we reached back to the temple base in less than an hour.

We didn't know that the temple offers free food facility every afternoon. We had our lunch in the temple and it was a delight for us.

We took the same bulky auto to get back to dabuspet bus stand.

This is how the Shivagange looked on our way back.

It was 5:30 PM when we reached Majestic bus stand.

Looking out eagerly for the next trek...
